CVS Overview

There seems to be a lot of questions about the CVS Extra Care Bucks.
Here is an ExtraCare Overview :

The first thing you need to do is get your CVS card, if you don't already have one. All you have to do is tell the cashier you would like to apply for the CVS card. She will give you the paperwork and you can fill it out right there and get your new card immediately.

What is an Extra Care Buck: Basically they are CVS dollars you earn by purchasing products which they offer extra care bucks when buy that particular product. You can find out the products that apply by looking in the weekly CVS flyer and also in the store it is marked on the shelf in front of the item.

When you make your purchase your extra care bucks will printout right on your cash register receipt. They do have expiration dates so be sure to use them before they expire. You can use them just like money on your next purchase. They are not redeemable for alcohol, gift cards, lottery, money orders, prescriptions, postage stamps, pre-paid cards and tobacco products.

Here are examples of how you can earn extra care bucks:
1) Purchase items that offer extra care bucks.
2)Earn one buck for every 2 prescriptions purchased at the CVS pharmacy.
3)Earn 2% back on every purchase - Every 3 months your extra bucks will print on your store register receipt, or visit CVS online to print your extra care bucks.

Money Maker Tip

Here's a way to make some money just by transferring your prescriptions.

In this weeks Rite Aid flyer there are coupons for a $25.00 gift card when you transfer your prescription to Rite Aid. You will receive the gift card when you pick up your prescription and then use it to buy merchandise at Rite Aid. They will allow 2 prescription transfers per person.

For example: I transferred 2 prescriptions for myself and 2 for my daughter and received 4-$25.00 gift cards =$100.00 to spend in their store. If you don't have the flyer or need more coupons you can get the flyers in the store.

CVS will except the Rite Aid coupon. They allow 1 prescription per person.

Wallgreens will only accept Walgreens coupon.

Meijer and Target only offer $10 vs. the $25 from the drug stores.

You can transfer your prescription each month to a different store to keep getting gift cards.

One important note: You have to wait at least 6 months before going back to the same store. So if you start out with Ride Aid you will have to wait 6 months before you go back to Rite Aid.

When you find the coupons for prescription transfers clip them for when you may need them.

Super Kroger

I love super Kroger! I call the Howell Kroger on M59 and Oakgrove super Kroger because they double coupons up to $1.00. I always find great deals there. There are so many more deals than just what is in the paper. When I can find a coupon that matches any of the 10 for 10 deals - bingo it's usually free. This week I was able to snag free paper towel, toothpaste, deodorant and salad dressing.

Another Great Kroger Tip:

As you are walking through the store you will find some items with a tag on the shelf for money back towards your next shopping trip - these can be little gold mines. After you check out you will get a catalina coupon towards your next shopping trip and when you use them they double too!

Stocking The Pantry

When you start getting these great deals you will want to stock your pantry with your free or close to free items.

For example: last week I found a great deal on canned cat food where I actually made 2.40 every time I bought 40 cans. So I now have 240 cans of cat food in my pantry and do not have to buy cat food for months and will only get cat food if I find it for free.

I also have stocked up on free: paper towel, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo ......
I will now keep eye out for more free deals and l only get these items when they are free.

Planning and Organizing

When I first started to use coupons I found the best system for me was a binder with baseball card holders to hold my coupons. I write the expiration dates so I can easily see them when I am flipping through my book. I also have organized my book to match the aisles in the Super Kroger store in Howell on M59 (they double up to $1.00). Some people like the accordian file method, it is all personal preference.

After you have decided how you are going to organize then you need to start building your coupon inventory. I buy several Detroit Free Press papers each Sunday so I get multiple coupons. I also print coupons from the internet, one of the best sites to get you started is couponmom.com.

You will want to build your coupon inventory to match them with items on sale. When you get your store sale flyers you will be able to match the store sales with your coupons and SAVE BIG! I pay close attention to store ads for Kroger, CVS, Walgreens, Rite-Aid, Meijer and Target. I get such a buzz when I get items for free or almost free!
